The extension starts off. Only after you press the consent-and-estimate button does it request an estimated network country. Activation is blocked until that succeeds or you manually select a country.
The automatic lookup sends HTTPS to api.country.is. The provider necessarily sees the request IP and returns it with a country code; the extension discards the returned IP and stores only the country code, time, and auto/manual source. Author IPs, browsing history, page content, and public-location text are neither stored nor transferred. A user-requested social account check caches only the platform, public handle, and normalized country result in browser-session storage for up to 24 hours. Instagram and Threads use one inactive temporary background tab and the platform's own DOM handlers; debugger permission is not used. Network traffic, cookies, and unrelated tabs are not inspected. The temporary lookup tab closes on completion, failure, or timeout. There are no ads, analytics, tracking, sales, or sharing.
chrome.storage.local stores enabled state, consent version, two-letter country code, timestamp, and auto/manual source. Turning the extension off deletes the country fields. Uninstalling removes all settings.
DCInside, Ruliweb, MLBPARK, 82cook, TodayHumor, X/Twitter, Instagram, and Threads (threads.com and threads.net). Every badge and account-check control is gated by the language of its own post or comment. X, Instagram, and Threads never infer an author IP; they use only explicit platform location or account-country UI.
Network country is not nationality or residence. VPNs and proxies can change it. Language detection is an imperfect local script heuristic; unknown, short, mixed, no-country, and unsupported-country cases show no IP badge. Public location is unverified UI. Biography, caption, topic, and post free text are never treated as a location.
